From 13 -16 May 2015, the Executive Chef of London’s Hotel Café Royal, Andrew Turner presents a unique menu specially created for Celebrity Chef Scott Webster and Osia’s “Cooking with Friends” guest chef programme.

Amuse bouche –  pork fat crisp and Maine lobster. The former was decadently oily and porky and left its oink marks all over my lips, whilst the latter was delectably meaty – I chewed and crunched each piece happily for several seconds.

Pea and mint veloute with smoked anchovy flute. The veloute was nicely creamy with mushy peas and a strong mint presence. Elsewhere, the pastry was soft and flaky while the musical instrument tasted quite sardine-esque, which I personally loved.

Photo 13-5-15 12 46 00 pmHiramasa Kingfish ceviche with miso sweet potato and hazelnuts. My personal favourite of the meal – the ceviche, all lined up attentively like a sashimi platoon, flaunted its royal softness with swag. The hazelnut gave me Cadbury memories, whilst the sweet potato was all sorts of gooey starch pleasure.

Photo 13-5-15 1 05 18 pmSeared sea bass fillet with asparagus, tomatoes and olives. The skin and the flesh seemed like constituents from different dishes – while the skin was reliably chewy and crispy, the flesh was soft, very moist and reminded me of the lovely Chinese soya glace steamed fish my mama used to serve. The obscenely massive asparagus spears were softer and gentler than what I was expecting.

Photo 13-5-15 1 35 13 pmVanilla creme brulee with packham pear and cinnamon, served with raspberry sorbet. The caramelised shield needed major horror film-style stabbing to penetrate and reminded me rather surprisingly of Khong Guan biscuits (!!) which I adore, while the custard itself did as was necessary.

Chef Andrew Turner's Menu - OsiaI also sampled a bit of my dining companion’s Australian Lamb Rump – it had a great bite to it and gave my jaw a healthy workout, while being quite tender and vulnerable in the middle. Mmmmmm.

The lunch set menu felt quite value for money given the venue and star power involved, and is certainly worth a try. I hear reservations are soaring in for the weekend slots, so do act fast.
