World of Hyatt has announced that they will be lowering elite status requirements by 50% in 2021, meaning all elite status tiers can be attained by staying half the number of nights or earning half the number of Base Points required in a calendar year. Any status earned in 2021 will be valid through February 2023. After the adjustment, the reduced elite tier requirements are as follows:
- Discoverist: 5 elite nights or 12,500 base points
- Explorist: 15 elite nights or 25,000 base points
- Globalist: 30 elite nights or 50,000 base points
The above reduced criteria do not apply to Milestone Rewards and Lifetime Globalist, meaning the reduced requirements apply strictly to achieving elite tier status only.
The reduction of elite tier requirements can be combined with the on-going Bonus Journeys promotion which has been extended through February 28, 2021 to accelerate your tier climbing. Under the promotion, stays at Hyatt properties between 1 January and 28 February 2021 will earn double elite nights for World of Hyatt members who have registered for the promotion. This means a person can achieve top-tier Globalist status and enjoy benefits such as an upgrade to a higher category room (including Standard Suites), 4pm late checkout, complimentary club access and free breakfast…with half the effort (and money spent!).
Unfortunately, without international travel, Singapore-based travellers only have Andaz Singapore and Grand Hyatt Singapore to rely on for elite nights, and both properties usually cost at least S$300 per night. Without the benefit of lower category properties in the country such as Hyatt House and Hyatt Place (available in countries such as Thailand and Malaysia) for efficient mattress runs, achieving World of Hyatt Globalist status in Singapore remains an elusive and fairly unattainable goal (as noted in my 2020 Ultimate Guide to Singapore Hotel Loyalty Programmes). If I were based in Malaysia, I would happily Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur my way to Globalist.
