| Why you should | The hotel is rather underrated for its fantastic location, being minutes away from shopping destinations like ION Orchard, Takashimaya and Tang Plaza; notable hotel cocktail bars such as One-Ninety Bar in Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, The St. Regis Bar in The St. Regis Singapore, Origin Bar in Shangri-La Singapore and The Backdrop in voco Singapore Orchard; and hidden gems within the vicinity, many of which are set within Orchard Towers (I would recommend Japanese izakaya Kukai and dessert concept Hup Ka Foon). It’s a brilliantly-placed launchpad for a staycation full of shopping and dining experiences.
The spacious 42sqm Suite Room offers two large balconies overlooking the leafy Tanglin neighbourhood. There are plenty of empty spaces within the bedroom for pirouettes, Tabata workouts and in-room yoga, while the bathroom boasts an ensuite bathtub, a rainfall shower area as well as a large vanity (and a curiously cavernous toilet). Evening cocktails at the Club Lounge is a relaxed, intimate affair featuring substantial fare such as Fried Chicken, Fried Cauliflower, Kale Salad and Nachos with Dip alongside wines, prosecco and a small cocktail menu (think Moscow Mule and Tequila Sunrise). The idyllic swimming pool is suitable for moments of aquatic relaxation, with the abundance of colourful orchids along the outdoor areas giving the space a certain residential garden charm. Their Nasi Lemak from breakfast is pretty wonderful (see below). |
| Why you shouldn’t | Breakfast at Brewerkz is a conventional and modest affair, with highlights including BBQ Chicken Puff, Chicken Sausage and Congee, while the Club Lounge breakfast features essentially a smaller selection of the above. The one feature from the Brewerkz breakfast during my stay that crossed over into “why you should” territory is their self-assemble Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken comprising delicious fried chicken and a bodacious sambal chilli that enlivens the entire proceedings.
The fitness centre is pretty cosy and tired, and you are better off attending fitness classes or visiting gyms in the vicinity for your workout needs. |
| Miscellaneous information | Rendezvous Hotels is a brand under Far East Hospitality, who also manage The Clan Hotel Singapore, Oasia Hotel Novena, Oasia Resort Sentosa and The Outpost Hotel Singapore.
The public spaces within the lower floors of the hotel are adorned with visually striking artwork, and one should do a brief art tour during their stay (perchance while waiting for your Grab pick-up). |
