In April 2025, I checked into the Guest Room (Mid-Level Floor) at The Westin Singapore. Occupying levels 32 to 46 of integrated development Asia Square Tower 2 in the Marina Bay area, the 305-room property is a short walk away from Downtown, Shenton Way and Raffles Place MRT Station and about 30 minutes from Singapore Changi Airport. Nearby attractions include Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay as well as the iconic local dining destination Lau Pa Sat.

Notable properties in the area include The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore, Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore, The Clan Hotel, Singapore as well as QT Singapore.

The UTW (“Under Ten Words”): Sky-high bayside tranquility in downtown Singapore.

The must-dos (if any): Enjoy the quiet of your guest room, enjoy evening cocktails at the Westin Club Lounge, chill out after hours at Cook & Brew.

THE WESTIN SINGAPORE

Blessed with a glorious 11-metre high ceiling and overlooking the turquoise waters of the Marina Bay area and the South China Sea, the 32nd level hotel lobby (the highest hotel lobby in the country) plays it all business swanky with dark woods, marble surfaces, suede chairs and carpeted floors. The hotel prides its rooms and suites as restorative sanctuaries above the city, which is a surprisingly apt description given how the hotel’s various spaces are cloaked in a perceptible quiet as well as bathed in calming cool hues courtesy of the abundance of floor-to-ceiling glass windows on all sides of the coast-side property. The sense of tranquility makes the space an exceedingly popular destination for exclusive and dignified birthday celebrations as well as restful weekend staycations for both families and couples alike.

On the wellness front, the Heavenly Spa by Westin on the 35th level offers a selection of massages, body treatments and facials. Hotel guests are able to enjoy facilities such as the Experience Shower, Aromatherapy Steam Bath and the gorgeous marble-walled, green-tiled Whirlpool. The WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio, the infinity pool with its expansive daybed terrace as well as the Westin Club Lounge are located on the same level.

In order to access the guest rooms, Cook & Brew (33rd floor) and the wellness facilities on the 35th level, guests have to switch to a different set of elevators on the 32nd lobby level.

GUEST ROOM, MID-LEVEL FLOOR

Facing the gleaming mirrored surfaces of Marina One and the soothing sight of ships stationary in the calm waters beyond, the 40sqm Guest Room, Mid-Level Floor is unabashedly a business hotel room in spirit, featuring a large work desk by the window and one of those dreaded refrigerators with sensors that automatically charge for removed items and cannot be used for your personal items (I see you, Pan Pacific Singapore). The pantry is equipped with Nespresso and TWG Tea-making facilities as well as a range of snacks, canned drinks, bottled water, wines and spirits. One’s forty winks is suitably guaranteed, courtesy of the Sleep Well Lavender Balm by your bedside and the Westin’s plush Heavenly Bed.

The bathroom offers a vanity with an attached hairdryer as well as a lighted make-up mirror along with free-standing bathtub facing the bed/window and an enclosed rainfall shower, with bathroom amenities from the White Tea Aloe range of the hotel’s in-house brand, Heavenly Spa by Westin. The sliding doors separating the bedroom from the bathroom is only partially frosted, which should delight wayang kulit enthusiasts and exhibitionists.

Those travelling with anyone other than their lover/partner should book a suite. I had to fashion a rudimentary “privacy curtain” using a bathrobe on a hanger along with a towel to avoid feeling like a peepshow stripper.

DINING

Breakfast is served at Seasonal Tastes, the hotel’s signature restaurant. The buffet offerings comprise the usual Western breakfast sides, egg station and pastries alongside a wide array of Asian dishes – think Fish Ball Sambal, Nasi Lemak, Lamb Curry, Teriyaki Chicken, Chicken Dumplings and Tamago. In keeping with the brand’s Eat Well ethos, the restaurant also offers DIY Acai Dessert Bowls alongside fresh juices such as Celery and Rock Melon.

My personal favourites from breakfast were the dishes from the Live Noodle station – the Laksa was reliably satisfying (with chilli paste available to turn up the thickness and spice), and the Herbal Chicken and Winter Melon Soups were energising, happiness-giving joys. Why aren’t nourishing Chinese soups more of a thing?

Located on the 33rd level, Cook & Brew is a popular gastro bar amongst the post-work CBD crowd. The bar serves an extensive range of affordably-priced beers, wines and cocktails as well as both classic and Asian-inspired bar fare – think Crispy Calamari, Wing It Your Way (fried chicken wings with your choice of either gochujang mayo, spicy soy sauce or tangy soy sauce), Gambas Al Ajillo, Cheesy Bacon Tots, Chicken Tandoori Burger, Grain-fed Angus Ribeye Steak and Salted Egg Carbonara. Personal favourites include include the spicy and creamy-thick Thai Green Curry Mussels, the luxuriously soft Signature Fish & Chips Chilean Cod and the garlic bonanza that is the Porco Aglio Olio (spaghetti, garlic sausage, chorizo, bacon). With some chilli padi devilish spice in the mix, the latter would be perfection.

During my visit, I also sampled selections from their cocktail menu. The Kopi Toast (spiced rum, reinfused coffee grounds, chocolate bitters, kaya jam) is a pandan-fragrant, cockle-warming treat, while the bacon-garnished Almost Breakfast (bacon fat-washed whiskey, amaro lucano, lime & lemon peel juice, maple syrup) plays like a Coffee Meets Bagel meet cute between an Old Fashioned cocktail and a Chuan Bei & almond nourishing drink. I also managed to preview the delicious Forget Me Not, a fruity tequila-base concoction created as part of the Sustainable Bartender Championship by Marriott International in partnership with Código which will be available throughout May 2025.

WESTIN CLUB LOUNGE

Located on the 35th level near the pool, the Westin Club Lounge serves breakfast and evening cocktails. Breakfast is a modest buffet affair consisting of Western breakfast sides (Pork Sausages, Hash Browns), Asian dishes (Fried Chicken Wontons, Chicken Bun, Crystal Vegetable Dumpling, Vegetarian Fried Noodles) and a live egg station offering eggs done any style, including a customisable Eggs Benedict option with either Smoked Salmon and Smoked Ham.

The evening cocktails presentation (5pm to 8pm, with the buffet ceasing at 7pm) comprised a selection of substantial savoury dishes, including Salmon Gravlax Brioche Sandwich, Broccoli Lao Gan Ma, Steamed Beancurd Vegetables in Superior Veggie Sauce, Teriyaki Beancurd Tofu, Drunken Chicken, Baked Cod in Shio Konbu Beurre Blanc Sauce, Basil Pesto Seafood Pasta, Chicken Coq Au Vin and Glutinous Rice with Chicken & Mushroom alongside sweets such as Black Forest Cake and Kueh Lapis. I managed to enjoy two evening cocktail presentations, and one was decidedly better than the other in terms of food offerings, meaning your experience may depend quite a bit on luck.

On the alcohol front, the lounge offers Heineken and Tiger bottled beer, a selection of spirits (including Beefeater gin and Maker’s Mark bourbon), house reds and whites along with Teresa Rizzi Prosecco Brut as the bubbly of choice.

Pro-tip: one needs to have one of the limited window-side tables close to the waters. The central seats near the buffet-line simply would not do the requisite justice to the Westin Club Lounge experience.

CONCLUSION

I have always had a soft spot for The Westin Singapore as a hideaway, restorative destination, and this latest stay confirms that the property remains relevant for such a purpose. The food offerings across the different dining venues – especially Seasonal Tastes – has improved considerably since my last visit, and I will certainly be back.
