La Loma espresso coffee – plum, toffee, milk chocolate and green apple. Cashless! The Taste Wheel! iPads! Industrial chic! You’d go in because of the rave reviews, and you’d be enthralled by the descriptions on the menu, and impressed by the futuristic science-lab vibes of the establishment, and you’d feel like a hip urbanite and that you now belong to the specialty coffee movement, and as you walk out with the coffee cup with its stylishly-coloured lid, you might fleetingly wonder if it’s all mastery of psychological manipulation and realise that your life hasn’t changed one bit after a cuppa from The New Black – but you won’t care because the experience was brilliant. And the coffee?…It was good! 4/5
