Why you should	The Lotus Villa boasts an entire library – a wide-ranging selection of visual art books from the research library of Sculpture Square Limited – as well as an outdoor jacuzzi all the way in the sky on the 20th level overlooking the cityscape. Now that’s decadent and, at night, atmospheric and potentially romantic when you incorporate wine and ambient music into the mix. How many hotels do you know in Singapore offer the same experience? Service at the Skyline Lounge (should you have access) is sincere, and the selection during cocktail hour is modest but capable of filling you up as dinner. The hotel offers three different pools – a private pool for club guests, a soaking and lounging wet area (children-oriented) and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Why you shouldn’t	The property’s fairly confusing “‘hotels within a hotel” concept – basically to emphasize the distinct qualities across the different room categories which are classified under the umbrellas of Mint Hotel, Loft Apartments, Saranggong Villas and Skyline Studios & Sky Villas – highlights the fact that your stay experience is likely to vary considerably across different “hotels”. I enjoyed my Lotus Villa (under Sky Villas) very much thanks to the outdoor jacuzzi, but I am not sure I would have had as much fun in a Mint Room (under the Mint Hotel). For a hotel of such scale, their breakfast venue is very modest. Escape‘s charms lie within their fairly underrated a la carte menu (think “Mala” Prawn Pasta, Wok Fried “Hor Fun” with Seared Ribeye Steak and Super Lobster Laksa).
