In November 2025, I checked into the Penthouse King (Cityscape View) at The St. Regis Singapore, situated within the upscale Tanglin residential neighbourhood near the prime Orchard shopping district. The 299-room property recently concluded an extensive transformation project, with guest rooms now boasting new interiors and brand new dining concepts introduced. The hotel is one of the country’s most opulent addresses, and has in recent times hosted esteemed guests ranging from Prince Harry to Kim Jong Un.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site Singapore Botanic Gardens is a stroll away, as are Orchard MRT Station and notable shopping and dining destinations such as Wheelock Place, Wisma Atria, Takashimaya and ION Orchard. Marina Bay Sands and the Central Business District are about ten minutes away by taxi, while travelling to Changi Airport by car will take around 30 minutes.

Other notable hotels within the same vicinity include The Singapore EDITION, Conrad Singapore Orchard, Pan Pacific Orchard, voco Orchard Singapore, Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, The Standard, Singapore as well as Artyzen Singapore.

Other Marriott Bonvoy properties in Singapore include JW Marriott Singapore South Beach, The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, 21 Carpenter Singapore, The Warehouse Hotel and W Singapore.

The UTW (“Under Ten Words”): Modern opulence with exceptional dining in Tanglin.

The must-dos (if any): Enjoy the massage jets and bathtub in your guest room, order a hot chocolate via butler service, have breakfast (and dinner) at Sophia, use the extensive spa facilities, get a nightcap at The St. Regis Bar, have the Sunday brunch at Yan Ting.

THE ST. REGIS SINGAPORE

Refreshed interiors come courtesy of FBEYE International (behind W Maldives and The Westin Singapore), featuring the extensive use of botanical-themed motifs and hues in reference to the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site, Singapore Botanic Gardens. In keeping with its opulence, the property boasts an extensive number of artworks scattered around the property, from the bold red Chinese ribbon dance-inspired art installation Sense Around along the outer perimeters of the driveway and the Riding Bodhisattva sculpture by Taiwanese sculptor Li Chen depicting a Buddha on a dragon to the grand Chinese art mural Gathering of the Immortals behind the reception counter and artworks from the likes of Picasso (?!) and Fernando Botero.

The hotel now boasts new various dining concepts since its transformation: modern Italian concept Sophia, afternoon tea destination The Tea Room and signature cocktail bar The St. Regis Bar on the ground floor. Returning concepts are the Michelin-starred Edo-style sushi omakase restaurant Shinji by Kanesaka; Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant Yan Ting on the mezzanine floor; and Japanese tempura omakase concept Tentsuru on the 2nd level. At 6.30pm every evening, the Champagne Sabrage Ritual – a St. Regis staple – takes place at the foot of the lobby’s grand staircase, during which a dramatic opening of a champagne bottle with a sabre kickstarts a round of free champagne for guests in attendance (of whom I suspect at least some are not actual in-house guests).

In terms of wellness, The St. Regis Spa offers face, body and nail treatments using Sothys, Charm d’Orient, Zents, and Margaret Dabbs® London products. All hotel guests can access the various facilities within the spa’s Wet Lounge such as the cedarwood Finnish sauna, ice fountain, steam chambers – where notably eucalyptus is regularly spritzed onto the walls such that you feel your almost-naked body is luxuriating within a life-sized diffuser – as well as the outdoor Spa Garden with a piping hot jacuzzi for moments when you want to experience being (mightily relaxed) human stew.

A fitness centre and tropical spa pool round up the list of hotel facilities. Elsewhere, an event venue Caroline’s Mansion sits adjacent to the main hotel building, with its own private driveway well suited for social celebrations.

PENTHOUSE KING (CITYSCAPE VIEW)

Overlooking the leafy and affluent neighbourhood through floor-to-ceiling windows, the 52sqm Penthouse King is dressed in soothing shades of green, blue, cream and taupe with floral accents. The living room features a writing desk, sofa and lounger seating as well as modern technological touches such as USB-C ports and motion-activated lighting. The pantry in the foyer is equipped with Nespresso and TWG tea-making facilities and a minibar stocked with chips, chocolates as well as Ruinart champagne, French wines, beers, juices and carbonated beverages. In lieu of bottled water, a filtered water tap dispenses either cold or hot water.

The French marble bathroom comes with double vanities, an enclosed rainfall shower – with powerful vertical massage jets which can give obscure, hard-to-reach spots on your back a good blasting – as well as a freestanding bathtub. Bathroom amenities are courtesy of Swedish beauty brand Sachajuan, Australian vegan and cruelty-free skincare brand Sodashi as well as (now-defunct) REN Clean Skincare.

The hotel provides a bespoke butler service, with a personal butler assigned to each room who can assist with luggage packing, garment pressing, beverage service (a pot of hot chocolate is a signature St. Regis experience) and more.

DINING

Breakfast is a semi-buffet affair served at Sophia, the new glasshouse-inspired modern Italian concept on the ground level whuch celebrates the hallmarks of authentic Italian cuisine from 11 different regions in Italy. The buffet comprises the usual pastries, cold cuts and salad bar; a fresh juice bar with a variety of vegetables and fruits to choose from; Unagi, Tamago and Smoked Duck Sushi; Szechuan Chicken Salad and Salmon Croquette; and a noodle soup station presented yong tau foo-style where you select your own ingredients (prawns, broccoli, quail eggs, fish cake etc).

The a la carte offerings include the absolutely essential Epicurean Omelette (tiger prawns, lobster bisque reduction, avruga pearls, chives), the delicious Soft Boiled Eggs and Kaya Toast, the fluffy Brioche French Toast (cinnamon sugar, caramelised banana compote) as well as other selections such as Eggs Benedict and Aloo Paratha (Indian flat bread stuffed with potato, served with yoghurt and pickle).

Beyond breakfast hours, Sophia doubles up as the hotel’s venue for a two-hour complimentary aperitivo session for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members and bove (3-5pm on Mondays to Saturdays, and 4-6pm on Sundays). During aperitivo hour, eligible guests are entitled to servings of selected antipasti as well as two beverages, with options including Negroni, Tequila Sunrise, Aperol Spritz and Whisky Highball cocktails or prosecco, red wine, white wine or bottled beer.

Sophia’s a la carte menu comprises a variety of pizzas, focaccia, antipasti, primi piatti, secondi and dessert selections. The Carpaccio Di Gamberi (mazara prawn, raspberry gel, celery, plankton oil, avruga pearls) was slickly-dressed, cool and berry-sweet, while the Polpo Grigliato (grilled octopus, fava beans, red onion, mint, semi-dried tomato) offered a firm, tender chew. The Tagliata Di Manzo (Robbin Island Wagyu MB9+, grilled striploin, arugula, parmigiano reggiano, balsamic vinegar) was sexily smoky and fatty, with most bites featuring a pleasurable saline burst at the end, while the Spaghetti All’astice (Boston lobster, cherry tomato, lobster jus, basil) was drenched in bisque-esque richness, with every strand of pasta being steadfastly firm.

Absolutely go for the generously-portioned desserts such as the Tiramisu (espresso, ladyfingers, mascarpone, cocoa powder) and Panna Cotta E Pere (red wine poached pear, almond tuile).

Taking over where the former Astor Bar left off, The St. Regis Bar Singapore takes its inspirations from both early 20th-century Manhattan and the legacy of the legendary The St Regis New York. The mixology programme is led by Kelvin Saquilayan, formerly from Manhattan Bar and Republic Bar. The new “Time After Time” menu takes you on a journey through defining decades of American cocktail trends while simultaneously weaving in local flavours and cultural references. Highlights including the surprisingly ginger-spicy Merlion Sling, the Manhattan-esque and Granny Smith-fresh Midnight Orchard and the floral martini-style Roar & Bloom which played like a lychee martini with reduced sugar.

The hotel’s signature Bloody Mary cocktail takes the form of the savoury bak kwa Michter’s Bourbon-based The Straits Mary which is laced with chilli padi, soy, Japanese sansho, black pepper and gochujang. Adventure seekers can go for the New York Or Nowhere, a smoky clarified tequila-mezcal punch which takes very literal inspiration from its namesake city’s classic pastrami sandwich.

My personal favourite was the Club Kid Espresso, which was redolent with coconut notes and reminded me of a particularly ah beng reincarnation of Old Tea Hut gula melaka milk coffee.

Located on the mezzanine level, Michelin-starred modern Cantonese fine dining restaurant Yan Ting offers a range of dim sum, meat signatures and innovative seafood specialities in a setting which incorporates both traditional and contemporary Chinese flourishes. I had their Sunday Champagne Dim Sum Brunch a few years ago, which turned out to be a sensational experience which justifies a return visit. Elsewhere, the new Tea Room is the hotel’s summer garden-inspired afternoon tea destination, while the Patisserie offers grab-and-go salads and sandwiches alongside artisanal chocolates and dainty desserts.

CONCLUSION

With a more contemporary luxury aesthetic and brilliant refreshed dining concepts (while retaining what was great, such as their brilliant shower jets), there is now plenty of reason to check-in at the transformed The St. Regis Singapore.
