Marriott Bonvoy has recently made major announcements about their 2021 programme changes as well as teased their upcoming Q1 2020 global promotion which should please Marriott Bonvoy members looking to easily maintain or achieve elite status during a time of limited travel possibilities.
MARRIOTT BONVOY 2021 PROGRAMME
Q1 2021 Global Promotion
Marriott Bonvoy will soon launch its first 2021 global promotion in February that is valid for stays between 16 February and 27 April 2021. Under the promotion, Marriott Bonvoy members who register for the promotion will earn double base points and double elite qualifying nights for stays of two nights or longer during the promotion period. Redemption stays will qualify for the promotion as long as it includes at least one paid night. There is no limit to the number of bonus points you can earn.
50% Elite Night Credits To Be Deposited
A welcome return of one of last year’s programme changes, all Marriott Bonvoy members with status from 2020 will have elite nights deposited into their account in February equal to 50% of their existing elite tier:
- Silver: 5 additional elite nights
- Gold: 13 additional elite nights
- Platinum: 25 additional elite nights
- Titanium: 38 additional elite nights
- Ambassador: 50 additional elite nights
Marriott Ambassador spending threshold reduced
Marriott Ambassador status usually requires 100 elite nights plus US$20,000 in qualifying spending within a calendar year. For 2021, that spending requirement will be reduced to US$14,000.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR MARRIOTT BONVOY MEMBERS IN SINGAPORE
The 2021 programme changes and terms of the Q1 2021 global promotion are very generous and easily rival the very attractive offers from competing chains such as Hyatt and Hilton this period. After the 50% elite nights credit, Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members will only have to clock 25 nights in 2021 to maintain their status until February 2023, and with the double elite qualifying nights they essentially only need 13 nights (or 7 stays of 2 nights each). I’m a Gold Elite member expecting 13 upcoming elite nights to be credited, which leaves me with 37 more nights to clear in 2021 (or 18 nights during the promotional window if I have that many weekdays and money in the piggy to spare) to achieve Platinum Elite. Once my Competitor Elite Status Match gets approved, I can immediately start enjoying Platinum Elite benefits and take advantage of the Q1 2021 global promotion in one fell swoop – it all works out quite nicely!
With the large spread of Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Singapore, including February additions Duxton Reserve and Marriott Reserve, local Marriott Bonvoy members should have not much issues maintaining and achieving Platinum Elite status in 2021, so long as they try to clock as many elite nights as possible between February to April 2021. I expect to book quite a number of weekday stays to work-from-hotel at Sheraton Towers Singapore during the promotional period since that is one of the lowest priced properties in Singapore with club lounge access.
