Why you should | Having just opened its doors in 2023, the Autograph Collection hotel boasts a sleek and modern design, with its 56 rooms decked in beautiful, striking shades of topaz, sapphire and emerald in tribute to Thailand’s precious gemstones. I stayed in a Sapphire Premium King (the entry club access room) which offered a window-side daybed and dining table; a minibar stocked with Nespresso coffee, Chaidim tea as well as beers; and a spacious bathroom with a standalone bathtub, enclosed rainfall shower space and Erb shower amenities.
Hospitality is hard-wired into the hotel’s DNA. You are served a welcome drink upon check-in at the lobby’s chic and cosy lounge space; greeted by a welcome message on the bathroom mirror; and guests receive a auspicious “chalew” charm as a souvenir. However, I was most impressed by the service I received at EKKALUCK, the lobby level restaurant which doubles up as the club venue for evening cocktail privileges (enjoyed by both club guests as well as Marriott Bonvoy members of Platinum Elite status and above). On the first evening of my stay, I did not have much time at EKKALUCK during cocktail hour before having to leave for another commitment, but the EKKALUCK team thoughtfully prepared prosecco in takeaway cups (adorned with hand-drawn messages and cute drawings, no less) for me to enjoy at my next destination. Breakfast at EKKALUCK was a satisfying semi-buffet affair, with the a la carte menu comprising dishes such as Coconut French Toast, Pancakes, Khao Tom Goong (Thai-style boiled rice with banana shrimp), EKKALUCK Congee (rice soup with shredded chicken, ginger, spring onion, fried garlic, salted egg yolk, truffle paste, crispy noodles), Kuay Tiew Gai Sheek (clear chicken soup with rice noodles, shredded chicken & beansprouts) and Khao Kai Jiew Puu (Thai-style omelet with crab meat on rice with chili sauce). Prosecco is also on pour for that extra touch of indulgence. During evening cocktails (which can technically be enjoyed any time of the day – another example of the hotel’s great service), guests are served canapes as well as up to three drinks per guest from the beverage menu, which includes wines, prosecco as well as cocktails such as Spiked Strawberry (vodka, triple sec, strawberry, rose lemonade tonic), Old Fashioned (bourbon, syrup, Angostura bitters, orange), Thai Culture (rum, lime juice, jasmine syrup) and Sangria (blended wine, pineapple juice, spices, mixed fruits). |
Why you shouldn’t | The hotel is fairly cosy in its stylings – EKKALUCK multi-hats as restaurant, bar, club and lobby lounge, and the rooftop pool is more for lounging than swimming. |
Miscellaneous information | The hotel’s name is inspired by the Thai tradition of wishing guests “ma dee” (a pleasant arrival), “yoo dee” (a pleasant stay), and “pai dee” (bon voyage). |
