Why you should	Housed within a former 1940s bank building, the 91-room luxury boutique hotel is (as with other EDITION hotels) a multi-sensory experience to behold. The ROME Edition carries all the buzzy and luxurious brand’s trademark elements – the statement arrival, the lobby pool table, the sunlit green spaces, the faux-fur throws, the bold colours, the soaring ceilings, the dramatic central staircase, the sexy and chic bars (here, Punch Room and Jade Bar) the orb artwork, the seductive Le Labo “The Noir 29” in the air (and your bathroom). Despite its central location, the hotel maintains an air of seclusion and calm. Villa Borghese is a stone’s throw away, while popular attractions such as Pantheon, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain are accessible on foot. My spacious 52sqm EDITION Signature Suite was positively dreamy, with Canaletto walnut wood accents, the signature EDITION faux-fur throw on the bed and a handsomely-stocked minibar. A separate living room overlooks the courtyard garden, while the bedroom has daybeds by the large windows for street-gazing and daydreaming. The marble bathroom has an enclosed rainforest walk-in shower with a bathtub. The rooftop pool and The Roof‘s alfresco seats offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Eternal City in a lush setting. As Punch Room and Jade Bar are closed this summer, I enjoyed my evening tipples by the pool, which just so happened to be exclusive previews of the cocktails from Punch Room’s next menu which will be unveiled when the bar reopens next season. I am bound by secrecy, but let’s just say these cocktails bring you to places far beyond Italy. Breakfast at Anima is a 100% a la carte affair, with each guest being able to choose from dishes such as Il Toast Con Uova Strapazzate (scrambled eggs toast with Norcia ham, smoked scamorza cheese), L’egg Royale (Praga ham, “Béarnaise” sauce, Maldon salt), L’uovo Al Tegamino (fried eggs with crispy bacon, thyme and butter noisette potatoes), Waffles (visciale cherries, wild berries) and Il French Toast (brown homemade bread, butter, powdered sugar with a choice of Mille-fiari honey, blueberry or jam). Each guest is entitled to two mains and unlimited sides.
Why you shouldn’t	During certain times of the year (such as this past summer), Jade Bar and the EDITION brand’s quintessential bar concept Punch Room may be closed, which leaves you out of luck if you prefer your bars dark and sexy and tipples smoky and stiff. As with other EDITION hotels, breakfast is not a Marriott Bonvoy benefit for Platinum Elite members and above, which means the above a la carte breakfast comes at a cost.
Miscellaneous information	When British singer-songwriter Rita Ora stayed at The Rome EDITION in July 2024, she also stayed in an EDITION Signature Suite. Fun fact: we might be looking at the opening of Milan and Como EDITION hotels in the coming years.
