Hilton Singapore recently launched three different Foodie Staycation stay packages for stays to be completed by 31 January 2021. The three Foodie Staycation packages – the Opus Steak-cation (from S$265++), the il Cielo Gourmet Staycation (from S$345++) and the Treasures of the Sea High Tea Staycation (from S$245++) – are all inclusive of the following benefits:
- A one night stay in a Deluxe Room for two, with up to two children aged 16 years and below able to stay for free.
- Complimentary buffet breakfast for two at Opus Bar & Grill. Children aged 5 years and below dine for free, while children between 5 and 12 years can enjoy 50% off.
- Early check-in at 12pm and late check-out until 3pm (subject to availability).
- Complimentary parking.
The package offers complimentary breakfast for two which is served at Opus Bar & Grill. The a la carte-style breakfast offerings comprise the usual fruit juice, cereal, pastry, seasonal fruits and coffee/tea as well as your choice from three mains: Breakfast at Hilton (two eggs in any style served with pork bacon, chicken sausages, hash brown and baked beans); Healthy Breakfast (three-egg white omelette served with baby spinach, roasted tomatoes and mushrooms); and Asian Breakfast (your choice of either fish congee with century egg or mee goreng, served with a basket of dim sum).
The three Foodie Staycation packages are available for booking from now til 28 January 2021.
In October 2020, I tried the Opus Steak-cation, with an additional supplemental upgrade from the Deluxe Room to the Executive Suite.
THE EXECUTIVE SUITE SUPPLEMENT
One needs to know that rooms in the Deluxe Room category have not been updated quite as recently as the Premium Room and Executive Suite categories. If you prefer a modern and well-furnished guest room experience, you should most definitely pay the additional S$200++ supplement on top of the package to upgrade from the basic Deluxe Room to the hotel’s recently-renovated 69sqm Executive Suite which comes with a bathtub and private steam room.
Additionally, staying at an Executive Suite gives you access to the Executive Lounge. Now in a reduced format due to current safe distancing measures, lounge guests can enjoy one hour of free-flow spirits, beers and wine to go with the trays of canapes – think salad, roasted potatoes, yam bun, chicken baskets and yuzu cake squares – which are served right to your table. At point of check-in, you will have to indicate in advance your choice of either the 5.30-6.30pm time-slot or the 6.30-7.30pm time-slot for your use of the executive lounge.
Of course, Hilton Honors Diamond members can get their usual complimentary access to the Executive Lounge if they book a Foodie Staycation stay package, although they are likely to be upgraded only up to the hotel’s Executive Plus rooms with balconies.
THE OPUS STEAK-CATION
The main event of the Opus Steak-cation package is undoubtedly the titular dining experience – a steak dinner for two at Opus Bar & Grill. The package comes with free-flow of prosecco, red or white wine as well as your choice from any of the sharing platters from Opus Grill’s menu (with the Tomahawk requiring an additional top-up of S$20):
Signature 1kg U.S. Black Angus Bone-in Rib Eye (dry-aged, marble score 4);
1kg Black Angus Porterhouse (marble score 3, Australia);
Wagyu & Lobster (500g Australian Wagyu sirloin and Marine Stewardship Council-certified Boston lobster);
1.2kg Whiskey-aged Rangers Valley Wagyu Tomahawk (360 days grain-fed, marble score 5); or
Premium Butcher’s Platter comprising 600g Black Angus bone-in rib eye; 150g Wagyu rump cap; braised wagyu beef short rib, grain-fed, marble score 4-5; and gourmet beef sausages.
All sharing cuts come with three different salts – rosemary, Himalayan and volcanic – as well as your choice of two sauces from the eight available which includes Armagnac Green Peppercorn, Black Truffle & Mushroom, Red Wine & Bone Marrow, Chimichurri and Smoked Chilli Glaze.
I opted to pay an additional S$20 for the Tomahawk, which was sensational. Smoky, tender and juicy, the flavours involved ran fairly deep beneath the surface, with the most luscious and oily fatty bits which demand to be savoured in manner of mouthlust-driven, Patrick Swayze-esque in-mouth dirty dancing before, after capture and finally rapture, its final destination down your oesophagus.
If a hearty evening of cow isn’t quite your jam, you can go for the il Cielo Gourmet Staycation (5-course Italian tasting menu for two) or the Treasures of the Sea High Tea Staycation (high tea set for two with seafood platter & a bottle of prosecco).
Considering the usual rates of a stay at Hilton Singapore, the value here is hard to beat. If you are able to arrange to pay for your package in-person (as opposed to the default full pre-payment) and utilise the on-going American Express promotion for S$120 statement credit after S$400 spend at Hilton properties, you would be getting one heck of a bargain.
